The Fed15 Podcast: Managing Breaks in Service and Extending Time Off

Katelyn talks about breaks in federal service. She first goes over TSP mobility related info. She first discusses what leaving the funds in your TSP entails, then discusses rollovers to traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs and 401Ks discussing pros and cons. She discusses the importance of keeping a copy of your personnel files especially when returning to federal service is a possibility. Then she highlights the importance of continuing retirement saving after making the transition to private sector. Lastly, she touches on FERS Balance and not tempering with it.

Dan discusses how to extend your time off by leveraging federal holidays, therefore reducing amount of PTO being used. He gives examples centered around Juneteenth, Thanksgiving and Christmas. He highlights the importance of balancing this out with your workload, flexibility, leveraging Telework and strategically planning early to take care of your well-being.
